01 / Overview
BrewThink takes a vague idea (“a hoppy summer pale ale around 5%”) and turns it into a complete, in-style recipe with ingredients, amounts, water, yeast and a timed brew day with alerts on your phone. It is a subscription product with a free plan, web app and Android app, serving brewers in eight languages.
02 / The challenge
Brewing software is either powerful but dated, or friendly but hides the calculations that matter. And a language model on its own is a poor brewer: it invents ingredients and gets the numbers wrong. BrewThink had to serve beginners and experts in one product, and the AI had to be trusted by people who will taste the result.
03 / What we built
The AI suggests, the maths decides
The model only chooses ingredients and amounts, through a strict output schema. Gravity, alcohol, bitterness and colour are computed deterministically, in Python for generation and in an identical PHP port for editing, so the numbers never drift. Twenty-one validation rules, a catalogue match for every ingredient and a corrective rebuild round catch what the model gets wrong.
From recipe to brew day
Every recipe becomes an ordered brew day: mash, boil, timed hop additions, fermentation milestones and gravity readings. Alerts go out as push notifications to the phone and the browser, and finishing a session deducts the ingredients used from the brewer's inventory.
A product with revenue from day one
Stripe subscriptions in EUR and USD, a free plan granted at sign-up, annual AI credits with top-up packs, EU VAT validation, Greek e-invoicing through the client's ERP, and an admin area with trial-to-paid reports.
Knowledge the client maintains himself
116 BJCP styles, 79 style rules the client edits by uploading a spreadsheet, a catalogue of over 900 hops, malts and yeasts, and 570 clone recipes. The engine is provider-agnostic (OpenAI or Anthropic, switched by configuration) and ships with an evaluation harness that scored five models before choosing one.
04 / Results
A live subscription product: beginners get a complete, in-style recipe in seconds, experienced brewers keep full control over every number, and the client runs styles, rules and pricing without a developer. One platform serves the web app, the Android app and eight languages.
